Just featured in Food Network Magazine’s 2011 Gift Guide is Legnoart’s Cabrio Bread Box - it’s made with light birch wood and features a weighted “eco-leather” lid with stainless steel trim. A very sleek addition to any modern kitchen and on sale this week from Pure Modern.

We’re also taking a look at Frank Gehry’s Easy Edges Collection from Vitra, pictured below. Made with corrugated cardboard and natural hardwood, this series was originally designed from 1969-72, but now fully available in official recreations by the Vitra Design Museum of Germany. We have offered the miniature Wiggle Chair for some time now, but now have the full size version for sale as well as the funky Wiggle Stool and the nesting Low Table Set.

Great for kids and adults of any age are David Weeks’ newest posable animal figures. Made from sustainably harvested new growth beech or cherry wood, these toys are fitted with powerful elastic band muscles that allow them to endure for generations. Also new is this cute collection of pups seen below from Ross Menuez’s fauna collection of organic pillows. Made with water based inks on natural breadcloth fabric. The perfect entry point for beginner fishmongering, this tiny aquarium from Fascinations is fully functioning with a USB-powered water filtration system and low voltage pump. The running faucet is a nice touch but the LED display and overhead light start to feel a bit like overkill. Speaking of which, your fish may not love you for the size of their aquatic home, but that’s the cost of doing business with a tiny, awesome desktop fish tank. 

A pleasant find amid all the gadgetry was the trading company Journey, and their unique selection of furniture and homewares. Pictured above, the interlocking Puzzle Stool/Side Table, hand-carved and designed to work with each other.

From designer Singgih Kartono, a couple of very cool, classy desk sets made from real hardwood (Mahogany and Sonokeling wood sustainably harvested, of course) and handcrafted in his hometown Indonesian farming village. The Desk Set (pictured right) includes a Tape Dispenser, Stapler, Letter Opener and Pen/Card/Envelope Holder. If you’re feeling playful, his Toys for the Soul set are enhanced versions of his childhood favorites - Yoyo, Spinner, and Hole-Stick - each made to endure for generations.

Here’s a couple of interesting ideas for anyone bored with traditional birdhouses. Pictured left is the Shovel Birdhouse - uniquely designed to provide an easy meal by loosening the dirt and stirring up worms when a bird lands or otherwise shakes the house. Also new is the Ceramic Geodesic Bird-dome, made with the iconic shape popularized by Buckminster Fuller and perfect for smaller birds such as wrens, swallows, finches or warblers (and yes, has an easy-access door for cleaning when necessary!)
