Even for a classic design like a coffee cup and saucer, you can find something to improve upon. While the ”Oluk” Maze Coffee Cup (pictured top) is more of a fun diversion, I really love the simple problem solving of the ”Tie Tea” from designer and founder of le mouton noir & co George Lee.

If there’s one thing in this world that doesn’t need an explanation, it’s our love for hanging coats and hats on odd-shaped hooks placed prominently around the house. From Brooklyn-based design company Stewart Stand, these ultra-thin wallets are actually made from woven stainless steel thread to be extremely durable and even block RFID scanning on your cards and prevent identity theft. There’s really nothing as unsightly as the many “one-function” items we have around the house. Here’s a perfect example: the Madame Est Servie ironing board concept from Aïssa Logerot. While most ironing boards are relegated to some unseen part of the house - even this killer prototype I love would be tucked away for most of the day - this board flips over and serves a real purpose during all other times.

Sometimes the best inventions solve a problem you didn’t know you had. Case in point, the Glass Tank by Kouichi Okamoto of Kyouei Design - a self-filling wine glass that works with air and water pressure to always keep your snifter at an appropriate level. It’s hard to find a great looking, modern window film. Well, it used to be.. Check out Emma Jeff’s Adhesive Window Film right here for a variety of styles sure to accent any door or window. Personally I use one of those “fake stained glass” designs myself but that just happens to fit the decor.
