Not sure this is PETA approved…

roadkill wide.jpg

But as I start looking for new rugs for the living room… this one is at the top of my list—the ROADKILL Rug designed by Dutch design firm OOOMS is now available for a mere 3400 euros (shipping globally for just 7.50.... ) and really who can’t justify a 3407.50 euros to have a simulated flattened fox on the sitting room floor!?!? Click thru for the closeup of this faux carnage.

Luxurious Organic Applications

From rose petal wallpaper to leather floor tiles, Zoubida Tulkens takes organic materials and creates elegant applications for the home. The Rosae wallpaper is made from rose petals on paper sheets and can be combined to form a larger pattern; each sheet has it’s own distinctive pattern. The leather floor tiles also consist of organic waste material (leather scrap) that are pressed into floor tiles. These durable tiles also provide warmth and insulation from both temperature and sound. Two big toes up for this green product and I would love to give my feet a test run on these tiles!

One Hot Belt

As seen in my previous post with Seabags, there are some neat recycled products hitting the market like the Bill Belt from Feuerwear.  They also carry bags and wallets made from recycled fire hoses, each product named after men.  You know these products will last through all the wear and tear.  Does the firefighter come with it??

From Feuerwear:
We produce a range of bags, belts and wallets made from recycled fire hoses under the Feuerwear® brand.

Every Feuerwear® product is a one-of-a-kind piece and has its own individual story to tell. Before the hoses came to us, they were used extensively by firefighters for many years. They were dragged through soot, grease and mud, in extreme heat and fire, and had to transport thousands of cubic meters of water. We prepare the hose by scrubbing them clean before they are cut to size and handcrafted using high-quality materials to make sturdy, one-of-a-kind products - ready and able to accompany you through your own active duty every day.

PS…I Love You Too!

While PJ is adoring Ted Baker and yawning at designer Paul Smith‘s clothes, I have taken a moment to highlight some items of interest that just scream PS, I LOVE IT!  One of the main reasons why I fell in love with this designer is because his use of stripes is simple and discrete, yet makes a statement.  I like to think of it as a burlesque show of color.  From fine china, furniture decked in PS fabric, Triumph motorcycles, Mini Coopers, to luggage, this designer manages to always entice my masculine side.  Enjoy!

Indoor Eco Fabric Garden

Part hanging plant, part green art installation, the Indoor Fabric Garden from the recent 100% Design in London is a green and eye-catching collaborative project from fashion house Ted Baker and UK branding agency JAM. The installation merges tasteful fabrics and beautiful flora, giving modern dwellers a great way to integrate greenery into their interiors seamlessly and stylishly. Plus, the hanging vessels are made use from reused lampshades and their fabrics to reinforce the environmental focus of the project. - via Inhabitat

I wonder if Ted Baker does furniture; hopefully PJ will post something soon.  I’m waiting!

Decision Lounge

From REPUBLIC of Fritz Hansen:
Decision was designed by Pelikan Design in 1986.
The Decision sofa series comprises a wide range of different sofa units that can be combined in many different ways into a great variety of shapes and sizes.

image

The sofa is particularly suitable for reception and lounge areas and comes with optional tables in glass and with wedge-shaped cushions.  One-seaters, two-seaters or for a large group of people, in a quiet fabric, leather, or in an eye-catching fabric like the “Stripes” designed by the world-famous designer Paul Smith.

True style for men

One of my colleagues here at PureModern is in love with Paul Smith (ahem… Jools).  While I have a couple nice things from Paul Smith, his designs generally make me yawn. I think about what the well dressed contemporary man should be wearing today.  Everything for men is dated, lacking taste, and is not at all cutting edge.  However, recently—I’ve become quite interested in Ted Baker.  Rarely do great design, tasteful simplicity, and quality materials converge.  Ted Baker is one of the few designers that has been able to accomplish all of this with their entire line.  Check out their online store and designs.

I’m a bit biased—as I just purchased a great bag from my local Ted Baker store—and I’m quite happy

Psychedelic Wall Art

Designers Nuno Gonçalves Ferreira and Erin Hayne from Visual Refernce Studio have officially come out with a new piece of work that is sure to get a lot of hands on attention and compliments.  Touch Wall Panels are also made from the unique thermo-sensitive material and will change color at different temperatures even to the touch.  You can also see my previous post, One Hot A*S..., on the other cool pieces they have done.  I am still wanting their business cards!

Modern Camo For The Elmer Fudd In You

If you’re a big hunting buff, you will definitely want the upper edge to conceal yourself before going in for the big kill.  Designed by Andy Cuttitta, UltimateCamo has some very unique and visually effective camouflage gear for your hunting needs.  The finely detailed bark pattern mimics actual bark in that “it changes color in different light; it blends consistently at all distances and will not “blob” at long range like many other patterns”.  Elmer Fudd would be wishing he had this gear for hunting his wabbits!  Maybe this camo fabric could be put to use in home decor? - Just a thought for those naturists out there!  Definitely keep an eye on their site for more products to come!  Other key features according to UltimateCamo include:

- The tree’s natural branches and leaves serve as a three dimensional compliment to our pattern rather than being a one dimensional part of it.
- With UltimateCamo’s pattern you will not need to buy seasonal sets of camouflage clothing to match the constantly changing foliage on and around the trees.
- Our bark pattern blends with the dozens of types of oak trees as well as ash, cottonwood, sweet gum, maples, poplar, and several other common deciduous hardwood trees.
- The effectiveness of our bark pattern is not affected by variances in vision type of the animal.
