Sign of the Times: the iTable

Although it’s not a completely unpleasant design, the iTable sets a dangerous precedent. It reminds me of the horrible wacky cell phone-shaped furniture from the 90’s. With that said, I’m starting to really like this thing. It’s made from white, black or yellow corian - which I love - but if it’s like any “Mac” product, the redesigned second generation is usually worth waiting for.

Two-Way Toothpaste Tube!

image
From concept designer extraordinaire Dominic Wilcox, finally an answer to the age-old toothpaste conundrum. The concept for Two Way Toothpaste features two independent nozzles, meaning everyone gets their own end.. Come to think of it, this might just make things worse in my house. Has anyone ever thought that “tube” maybe just isnt the best way to store this stuff?

Wrecked Watercraft “Installation Art”

We love reused and sustainable furniture so it stands to reason we would support a repurposed watercraft.. Julien Berthier’sLove love” is a fully functional “mobile image of a wrecked ship.” Although it looks to be extremely uncomfortable, this has some great appeal for ironic boating enthusiasts.

3D EDGE Aquarium

I came across this sleek, contemporary aquarium during my visit to a local pet store while in hopes of purchasing some sort of pet for amusement.  The Fluval EDGE aquarium is a self-contained unit with hidden filtration, halogen lighting, and 3D viewing from every angle to boot!  At 6 gallons, the aquarium is available in pewter, black, and burnt orange - definite to be an eye catcher in any modern design.  I did leave empty handed this time around, I suppose PJ can keep me amused for now =)

Edible Fly for Your Next Bowl of Soup

If you enjoy eating soup but feel you just aren’t cringing every time you look down at your bowl, you may find that Ahead Creative’s Pepper Fly is just for you. Put best in a sloppy online translation, it’s about more than just pepper granules:  “When we drink soup and find out there’s fly in the soup, we must be angry and scram. When we discover some imperfect in our daily life, why don’t we change another point of view and take it easy?”

Ergonomic Kitchenware from Flavour Design

image

Sometimes the best designs are the simplest - take for instance Flavour Designs‘ line of handmade contemporary kitchen pottery. For a tea and cereal enthusiast myself, the Buddha Bowl (pictured top left) is a great, versatile product while the Ramen Noodle Bowl and “Dish-Ran-Away-With-the-Spoon” each add an ingenious place holder for a spoon or chop sticks.

Modern Pendant Lights from Down Under

Presented by Australian exporter Designs Abroad, Electric Firefly offers a striking selection of contemporary lighting, the Nimbus, Daisy and Sol Pendant Lamp (pictured clockwise from top left, similar in form to the classic “IQ Light”).  They’ve also got a lot of unique housewares that you might not expect to have come out of Australia. Come to think of it, I really have no idea what to expect coming from there.

Modern Water Features - Miami

On a recent walk down Lincoln Road mall in Miami Beach, I was interested to see the newest developed area with these awesome modern looking water features.  A great use of open space, and certainly more unusual than just patches of grass that always dies.  These water gardens featured islands with trees, whole portions of aquatic plants, water falls, integrated with areas for people to sit and enjoy the scenery.

The Ultimate BBQ Party Pack!

It’s not quite barbeque weather for everyone yet, but I couldn’t pass up a chance to show off the VULCAN All-in-One BBQ Set. You won’t have an excuse to stay home with everything you need in one (relatively) small backpack, plus it’s a great way to keep all your essential items in one place so you don’t forget anything.

The *Instant Wine Chiller*

In honor of the recently completed Winter Games, here’s an invention created in the Great White North herself, the ”Ravi” instant wine chiller. What amounts to a weapon suppressor for wine bottles, you charge this in your freezer for 6 hours, and then it’s “designed to cool a full bottle of wine served within one hour.” Ok, so maybe the time frames don’t line up perfectly. Perhaps one day you can charge it for 1 hour and then use it for 6? But until then, they also have a really nifty decanter that disassembles for easy cleaning. It’s truly a great time to be a lush!
