After having to get up early Sunday for the implosion (see yesterday’s post) I was thinking about alarm clocks. And today, surprise… here are a couple that are sure to get your morning started. The Sonic Bomb Alarm clock can be cranked up to a deafening 113 decibels and has an attached SHAKER to put under the mattress to complete the rattling experience. You can see the other products and detail specs on this clock at SONIC ALERT - available online for around $40

Change on the way…

Intel-Before-2

If you follow the real estate development market - you know that Austin TX is the bright spot of the country—so much so it was featured in the NY Times just a week ago… as cranes dot the skyline in about 8 hrs from now this building - known as the Intel Shell will come down… Intel started and left abandoned the building shell and all the city tax incentives in 2001 when tech boom turned to tech bust and they cut their losses. Now the site will become the new federal courthouse. I know, I know why do we need a new courthouse - well the existing one is outdated and overburdened - and our greed obsessed city council couldn’t find a way to stop the courthouse and get another highrise condo development on the site (like the 3 on the surrounding adjacent blocks...) Those condos are much better cranking out the revenue than a few judges, white collar criminals and the suburban lawyers who defend them.

So tomorrow at 7am, I my friends and neighbors and a couple of those judges, a few senators, a bunch (i.e. hundreds) of local who’s who and an army of media will watch from a nearby rooftop as this building implodes… it should make for great video - so give me a little time to get home with the camera to get it posted…

Chronare Canna Wall Clock

This is definitely taking the idea of “liquid” display to an extreme. The Canna wall clock is a series of glass tubes filled with over five gallons of colored water (naturally - you pick the color). The tubes fill and mark the passing of time in 10 minute increments...then at midnight the water drains away and the process starts over. You can watch your money drain away as you pay the $12,000 to get this addition to your living room

Alien-like Modern Lighting

While surfing some of my favorite sources for ceiling fans for a client I’ve come across an awesome floor light option. For an ultra-contemporary space the Camp Floor lamp from Marset adds a bit of War of World-esque look to your living room. The fully articulated “head” can be pointed up for ambient lighting or focused downward into a seating arrangement. Amazingly functional AND aggressively styled the Camp Floor makes its presence known in any room. Available online for $989

Design Tip - Avoid Tiki Statues

Found this one on Gizmodo this morning - just in case you were wondering how to fit this in as part of a contemporary home… stop wondering just follow the rule - TRULY TRAGIC TIKI’s should be avoided; particularly in the form of an aquarium. So sacrifice the $429 cost on something more interesting at DWR or other home furnishings locations.
