While visiting Palm Springs this past week - we spent a lot of time looking at real estate and architecture, a sort of evil passion.  Architecture has always inspired me, and what designers and architects do with materials never ceases to amaze me (unless it’s really tacky).  Because my passion is unusual living spaces, I tend to gravitate towards loft living with an industrial and contemporary feel.  While driving down the main drag in downtown Palm Springs, I hurried to a loft development of only 12 units, all for sale.  Depending on your preference—one side of the property looks over a bustling pedestrian friendly shopping corridor (conveniently housing most of the modern furniture stores) or the base of the serene mountainside.  Ranging from the Mid $500s to the Upper $700’s, it’s a relative bargain for a brand new property in a vacation hot spot.  For about $570,000, you get a completely outfitted 1400+/- sq foot, two story loft with high end finishes like Wolf, SubZero, Glass Mosaic Tile, etc.  Until recently, comparable properties would be selling for the upper 700’s without question.  For better or worse, the economic climate has made this property a great find.

Color (or bling) can make a bold statement with modern design.  Fir Italy presents “Glamour Style” faucets that integrate luxury with materials such as Swarovski Crystal, glamorous finishes, and unique detailing.  Attention to detail definitely goes a long way with these creative designs!

Designers Nuno Gonçalves Ferreira and Erin Hayne from Visual Refernce Studio have officially come out with a new piece of work that is sure to get a lot of hands on attention and compliments.  Touch Wall Panels are also made from the unique thermo-sensitive material and will change color at different temperatures even to the touch.  You can also see my previous post, One Hot A*S..., on the other cool pieces they have done.  I am still wanting their business cards!

Don’t overlook the small accessories to go on your balcony.  Rephorm, designed by Michael Hilgers, carries some interesting modern and very functional pieces to accent your balcony.  If space is an issue on your “balcon-ette” (short for tiny balcony in my book), then you cannot go wrong with these accessories!  They carry oil lamps, planters, bird feeders, and umbrellas.  Now I wish I had a balcony!

LeKlint Denmark has introduced a great way to make lighting changes without installing new pendants or shades.

The UnderCover concept are thin foil patterns inserted into the LeKlint lamp shade making a unique pattern.  The foils can be mix and matched for a multiple color depth.  Very cool!

I think it’s odd how businesses identify with the types of credit they use to conduct daily operations.  I must admit that I collect credit cards by the “bling” factor and how cool they look.  Who else in the world would admit that other than someone obsessed with the way stuff LOOKS rather than how it functions!  Function over Form is my mantra.

That said, when the Amex Plum Card came out.... I fell in love with the, well… (insert embarrassed look) ... the COLOR.  I mean it has cool benefits and all, but who cares!  It’s pretty!
